Let’s talk about humping.
It’s very repetitive. And if you’re doing it right it’s consistent. Not too fast, not too slow, and in the end it’s all worth it for everybody involved.
Today the type of humping I’ll be going into in detail about isn’t the kind that helps with baby making. There are lots of sites out there already for that type of humping, it’s a DEEPLY saturated market. I’m going to talk about a different kind instead.
The type of humping I’m talking about is a GRIND.
The GRIND
The grind for me is social media, marketing, and talking publicly about what I’m doing consistently. I’m trying to use the proper motion of the ocean get it done in a satisfying way.
The Motion of the Ocean:
- Creating social media accounts posting regularly
- 1 post (or story) a day on kickitapp.com Instagram
- 1 blog post a week for the Baby Race
- 1 Instagram post at least per Baby Race blog post
- Responding to and engaging with folks on Twitter/X
- Combing Reddit, responding to folks who post about a problem that I can help solve
- Adding to and evolving the plan – finding my audience
- Discord?
- TikTok?
- Kick it Twitter?
- Other platforms?
It’s definitely a grind. Especially the posting parts. However, one part that I enjoy is seeing what other builders are doing on Twitter and engaging there – I get some energy and ideas from that, and I like encouraging other folks and (hopefully) the motion will all be worth it for everyone involved!
I want to evolve my plan I haven’t created accounts for all of the social media platforms out there. The other idea I had is to sit down and come up with a posting content strategy so I have a list of things to post about and I can pull from the strategy rather than having to think coherently each post. Specifically with things like Instagram where it’s better to have a picture / nicely formatted text.
It may be a long way away, but I’d like to talk about where the humping and grinding might lead, I mean cum on, that’s the best part.
The Finish
In my first post The Starting Line I talked about what the race track looked like. Let’s swing by the track and take a closer look.
Baby Racetrack
- Baby (making) Start Date
- 11/4/2024
- Baby Estimated Finish line
- 11/4/2025
- Business Building Start Date
- 11/4/2024
- Business Finish Line
- ???
If you’re left only with questions at the finish after a long bout of humping and grinding, then something has probably gone wrong along the way. So let’s talk about what finishing look likes.
Goals
Here’s what I’m thinking:
Business Finish Line
- By the end of 2024: Get someone to pay me $1 (or more) for my product or service
- In 6 months (5/4/2025): Regular MRR from a business I own, trending upward
- In 1 year (11/4/2025): Replace my job and focus on running and growing my business
Yeah, great, you and everyone else wants to quit their job. Talk more about humping already
I’m happy to! The humping isn’t all a grind. There are definitely some parts I’m enjoying. Specifically I’m loving the building part, and importantly that is very necessary to to build towards the big finish.
Before I was doubting about which one of my projects / ideas to pursue. Now I’ve made a decision.
I’m going all in on KICK IT: kickitapp.com.
The doubt is still simmering in the dark bits of my mind, and I still think there’s opportunity in the other projects, but all of that will have to take a back seat. I believe doing is better than dicking around, and I’m going to focus and execute. Worst case scenario, it ends up not being the right thing, I learn something along the way, and it leads me to the next thing.
I’ve made a lot of progress on building KICK IT over the last week and I’m finding it really engaging and energizing making progress and growing the app little by little. Maybe there’s an apt metaphor out there between that and becoming a dad and seeing a kid grow up, which I’m very excited for. But unfortunately I’m only good at coming up with innuendos not metaphors, so I’ll have to work on that for a future post.
More on KICK IT and the big picture vision in a future post. And of course -more baby making! So long for now!
